Italgen acquires two hydroelectric plants

With the sixth acquisition in just four years, the green energy company of the Italmobiliare Group reaches 87 MW of installed production capacity

Italgen has finalized the acquisition from Idra Srl of 100% of Alben Srl, a company that owns two hydroelectric plants with a total installed generation capacity of approximately 4 MW and an expected average annual output of around 10 GWh, equivalent to the electricity needs of about 3,700 households. The two plants, operational since 2007, are named “Foppolo” (2 MW) and “Cambrembo” (1.98 MW), and are both located within the same power station building in the municipality of Valleve (BG).

Following the transaction, Italgen – which holds 31 hydroelectric water concessions, 7 photovoltaic plants, and a 300 km private transmission network – now reaches a total installed capacity of 87 MW and an annual production of around 325 GWh.

“I’m proud of this acquisition, the sixth completed in just four years after those in Piedmont (Idroenergy and Rovale), Lombardy (Idrodezzo and Dal Sass), and Tuscany (Idrolima). This transaction marks another step in Italgen’s growth journey in renewable energy and strengthens our presence in the Bergamo area – a region of strategic importance and deeply linked to our company’s industrial history,” explains Luca Musicco, CEO and General Manager of Italgen. “Italgen returns to invest in the Val Brembana area after 70 years, where between 1940 and 1953, we built three dams (Cassiglio, Alto Mora, and Ponte dell’Acqua) and three hydroelectric plants (Olmo-Cugno, Olmo-Cassiglio, and Ponte Piazzolo). A new mini-hydro plant (0.2 MW) in Camerata Cornello will also become operational in the area, with construction work nearing completion.”
